Excerpt from the book - The Last Mountain poem:
If some morning I climb that mountain,
For so long I've tried to tread,
I trust I'll look o'er the horizon,
Not be weak or scared.
There I'll see clear water
Rolling like the crystal sea;
Brooks cascading down the hillside,
A wonder I'm sure to see.
Perhaps the flowers will be blooming,
Never to fade nor grow cold;
The trees in artistic splendor,
Not broken or even old.
Yes, over the mountain is homeland,
Dear to the soul of man,
Where no time nor generation
Has been able to comprehend its span.
After we cross that mountain,
Age soon disappears,
We're transformed in a new beauty,
Life and youth reappears.
Aches and pains are all gone,
Sorrow and death have passed away;
Children smile and are happy,
As with the bear and lion they play.
Oh! Just to climb that mountain!
Perhaps one more to cross;
Just a glimpse of the highest peak
On which my rope of faith will toss.
